I love historical archives! 🤗
I go to endless lengths researching, trying to capture both history and authenticity in an engaging way for readers. And I love every minute of it! This photo was taken in the archive of the Günter Grass-Haus in Lübeck, Germany. The curator and I are discussing my work on Salt to the Sea and he's sharing private correspondence files from the archives. What a day! ❤️
Sharing this beautiful IG photo from @forget_me_not_originals because we could all use some good books, pretty flowers, and sparkles this week! Over the coming days, do something that delights and distracts you. A book you've been dying to read, a recipe you want to try, a fun craft project. Some of the true witnesses I've interviewed for my books told stories of becoming so lost in drawing or knitting that adversity and war seemed to fade into the background. So pick up a project! Your energy of enchantment will light a lamp in the darkness. Sending everyone big hugs. We're a voting community, but most importantly, we're a human community and we need to take care of one another.
Middle Grade and YA authors, get your work in front of this panel of judges! You still have until MIDNIGHT TONIGHT 10/31 (central) to submit your manuscript for the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators Kate Dopirak Craft and Community Award! Submission details can be found at www.katedopirakaward.com
Behold the gorgeous 🇨🇿 Czech 🇨🇿 edition of The Fountains of Silence!😍 In the Czech Republic, all of my books are published by the fabulous CooBoo. Visiting Prague for the book festival a few years ago was a memory I will never forget. Of course none of this would be possible without my longtime editor Tereza Eliášová and my award-winning translator Petr Elias. I love them to pieces. Photo: Tereza Eliášová
Time flies! 2021 will mark the 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the publication of Between Shades of Gray! 🎉
To celebrate, we've got several special things planned, including a beautiful new cover for the U.S. edition of the Penguin Teen paperback, pictured here. So grateful to the readers, students, educators & librarians who have embraced this story and history and have shared it with others. Stay tuned for some *very* exciting updates regarding the 10th anniversary!😍
